Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

I am always happy to find ways to clean my house using natural cleaners, and I am especially happy when it is cleaners I can make my self with common household products!  I recently read about an easy way to save money, and wash your dishes in your dishwasher without all the chemicals. I am all about money savings, and eliminating chemicals in my home is a huge priority to me, so I had to give this one a try. All you need is some baking soda, and show regular dish soap. That’s it.

All you need to do is pour the baking soda (I use 1/4 to 1/2 of a cup) along the bottom of your dishwasher. Then put about 4 drops of your dish soap (I like Dawn) in the soap compartment of your dishwasher and close it.

Run your dishwasher as normal. That’s it! I have had cleaner dishes than I was getting with the expensive dishwasher packs and I am loving the price!

Check out this after shot!

Think about it. One box of baking soda is only $1.00 and you can easily get  5-10 washes with it. That’s $0.10-$0.20 per load! Compare that to the average $0.50 per load for the dishwasher packs. The added bonus is no harsh chemicals!

Have you tried this trick yet? What do you think?
