Getting Back On Track

TITLE

One of the things I love about Home Schooling is the flexibility. Unfortunately, that also requires self discipline to stay on a schedule. With a New Year, many families are looking at the progress so far. Some are on track, some are not. Now is a chance to look at where we are, and where we want to be. If we are behind, it is a good time to make a plan to get where we want to be.

Make The Plan

Making the plan is the hard part. Keep is simple. Where to begin? Well, where do you want to be? Knowing the end is an important part. So, we know that we want to be completed by the summer, and we know where we are today. That is the starting point.

Break it down

Try not to get overwhelmed. nothing is ever as bad as it starts outs. Break the large goal into smaller goals. Monthly goals, or weekly goals. It will be easier to gauge your progress and stay motivated.

Stay accountable

Accountability is different for everybody. If you are self disciplined enough, it can be as simple as a check list. Try to find what will work for you.  If you need it, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Have a friend ask you how it’s going. Try to find another mom to “Buddy” with. Hold each other accountable and help each other out.

Stay Focused

Focus on the end result. It is not about finishing work books. It is about teaching out children. Finishing the work books is important, but not as important as what they learn. Not all learning comes from books.

  2. You are so correct, Not all learning comes from books. Many children learn in different ways, I was a hands on learner. I loved going to museums and historical places!

  3. Great post! It’s important to have a plan, but you also have to be flexible 🙂

  4. It’s crucial, no matter what you’re trying to accomplish, to have a plan and work that plan to meet your goal.

  5. My girls have been homeschooled almost all their lives, and I have one graduating this year! We are flexible to a point, but just about everything has to get done. That truly has been the secret to our success 🙂

  7. We also homeschool, and tend to find that we fall off schedule sometimes. We end up picking up days on weekends.
