Living In A Tech World

As my children get older, I can’t help but be amazed at how much the world is constantly changing. My husband and I were just telling the kids about our walkman and Discmans and about how we had to wait for a new song to come on the radio to record it. Before the days of music streaming and smartphones. Back when if you were taking the bus you waited at the stop for however long it took. Now, there are apps with real-time tracking of transit buses. No more waiting for long periods wondering if you missed the bus. It’s crazy when you think about it.

We take it for granted how easy we really have it. Need information? Grab your smartphone and ask Google. Or just ask your device and your smart home can control your lights, heat and more! Smart homes, Smart Watches, there are new developments improving our lives all the time. Sometimes one can look at all the developments and wonder if we are just creating a lazy generation. It really is a two-sided coin. On one hand, we have it so easy we can be losing the personal touch. This is a real risk that we need to remember, especially for our children. Just because we can shut out the world does not mean we should.

On the other side of the coin, smart watches are not just an expensive toy, they can give you real insights into your health by monitoring your sleep and heart rate. This can help your doctor have a real picture of a patient’s life. Activity trackers remind people to get moving, and can even make encourage more activity through competitions. A child with a smartphone can give peace of mind to parents who can use GPS. A non-verbal child can use a tablet to communicate with others. Instant access to information can make us more efficient. Doctors have access to test results and medical history with a few clicks. Online supports giving us so many options in helping our children succeed in school, and in our work lives too.

Keeping up to date with recent technology can seem overwhelming, but the future is so bright. More developments lead to more economical options. I love looking at what new things are on the horizon. Be sure to check out Adrian Rubin for some great tech info!
