Spend Some Time On Self Care This Valentine’s Day

Valentines Day

It’s February already, and that means Valentines Day is coming. We can see everything pink and red when we go shopping, covered in hearts and other cupid-inspired designs. Valentines Day is traditionally a day for couples where we try to show our loved ones how we feel about them.

Sometimes we can be so busy taking care of everyone else that we forget about taking time for ourselves. A person only has so much to give before we burn out! These days it is so easy to get busy. Between cooking, cleaning, working, and not to mention all the extra stuff kids get into these days. There is always homework to help with, practices to drive to, meetings to attend. Who has time to stop and breathe? Then we have a day dedicated to love.

If you are anything like me, this doesn’t mean a nice day off! Sure, movies and TV make it look like we get to spend a nice romantic day with the love of our life. Roses and diamonds, nice dinners and love everywhere sound amazing, but it’s not practical when you have a family. Even if my husband and I go out for dinner, we need to think to make a reservation and arrange childcare. Then of course supper still needs to be made for the kids, right? Romantic and uplifting? Not exactly. It becomes just another job to do. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the date itself. It’s just that the getting there is more work than I’d like, so I am tired. By the time we get home, I am done and ready for bed.

One thing I discovered helps me keep me from getting so tired is to purpose to take time for my self often. It is not selfish to take something, anything for me. It can be letting the house stay a little messier than usual and having a bath, going to get my nails done. Picking up a book that is not something with pictures and rhymes. A person can only read One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish so many times before I’m sure they become clinically depressed!

I find that even taking an hour a week for myself helps me to enjoy things more.
