You may have noticed I have written about business lately.  Online businesses are everywhere. If you stop and think about your circle of friends and acquaintances I’m sure you can think of a few people who are trying, and possibly succeeding to make a living online. Direct sales, Etsy shops, Virtual Assistants, even YouTube channels. It boggles my mind that there are YouTube channels where people just play video games that are crazy successful! I know tons of kids constantly talking about different YouTubers they watch.

There are new opportunities popping up all the time. How would have thought 20 years ago that people would make a living playing video games online? Or even that crafting in your basement could be the start of something that could be a full time job? Yet it happens. The world has changed.

Social Media Opened Up A New Way Of Business

Facebook started out in a university. Now, it is not only the easiest way to keep in touch with family and friends, but it also lets you find products, buy and sell, and keep up with the latest trends. Facebook ads are as prominent as our friend’s pictures of her new baby.  Social media has opened up a whole new world of marketing and is an ever-changing dynamic to any business. Algorithms are constantly changing and difficult to keep up with. It can be so overwhelming! How do you keep up? Spending all your time trying to master marketing takes time and effort.

Placing Your Focus

One of the best things I have learned is that you need to put your focus where you can shine. The marketing aspect of the business is a huge part of success, yet it is not something everyone enjoys. There are some people who understand all the ins and outs with ease, and yet they may lack the creative vision to get a business going. People have different strengths and weaknesses. You have to know what you are good at.

I am someone who can have confidence behind the keyboard and over the phone, but if you put me in front of people, I clam up. I second guess my self. I am an introvert, and I am learning to accept it. We live in a world that tells us we can be anything if we only try. I am all for self-improvement and encouragement. Positive messaging is important, yet it can not change the core of who we are. That is ok! Not everyone can win a gold medal at the Olympics. You can’t train for a race and then win the gold in swimming, right?
